  • Allow 48 hours in advance for the Bird House to dry.
  • Allow your modelling paste shapes to sit and firm up for a short time before attaching to your cake.
  • If your modelling paste is sticking to your tools or mat use your FMM Dab-a-Dust for dusting with cornflour or icing sugar.

To Make the Birdhouse

Roll out white modelling paste. Place the Brick Impression Mat on top & apply pressure with your hand to emboss the paste. Using the More than a Birdhouse Cutter to make the bird house, cut out two of panel 1 and two of panel 4 in white modelling paste. Dry for at least 48 hours.

Roll out light blue modelling paste. Again using the More than a Bird House cutter, cut out two of panel three. Dry for at least 48 hours.

Roll out light blue modelling paste and cut out 2 circles using the 2 middle size circles from your FMM Geometric set. Cut both circles in half using a Knife. Allow to dry.

To Make the Penguins

Cut out 3 Mummy Penguins and 4 Baby Penguins in black modelling paste. Put to one side while you cut out the pieces to decorate them.

Each penguin has an accompanying cutter strip. The larger one is for Mummy Penguin and the smaller one is for the Baby Penguin. Starting with the Mummy Penguin, cut out 3 white tummy sections, 6 black wings, 6 whites for the eyes, 3 yellow beaks, 6 yellow feet and 6 black pupils for the eyes. 1 red hat & scarf, 1 green hat & scarf, 1 orange hat & scarf. Put to one side.

To decorate the Baby Penguins cut out 4 white tummy sections, 4 yellow beaks, 8 black wings, 8 yellow feet, 8 white large circles for the eyes and 8 black small circles for the pupils. Put to one side.

Start to assemble the Mummy & Baby Penguins. Attach the decorations with water to the Mummy & Baby Penguin cut outs you made earlier.

Once the Penguins are assembled attach them to the bottom tier of the cake with water. Attach a large one in the centre then a small one each side and repeat. Refer to the photograph of the cake.

To Make the Snowman

Cut out 1 Mummy Penguin In White. Use the Mummy Penguin decorating strip to cut out 1 blue hat & scarf, 1 orange beak & 2 black pupils. Using the Baby Penguin decorating strip cut out 5 black pupils to make the snowman’s mouth. Assemble all the pieces you have cut out to make a snowman. Attach to the front centre of the top tier of the cake with water or edible glue. Refer to photo of cake.

To Make the Robin

Cut out Mummy Penguin in brown. Use the Mummy Penguin decorating strip to cut out 1 green scarf, 2 white large circles for the eyes, 1 orange beak, 2 orange feet, 1 red tummy, 2 brown wings and 2 black pupils. Assemble all the pieces you have cut out to make the robin.

To Make the Snowflakes

Roll out white modelling paste approx 2mm – 3mm thick. Allow it to sit for a short time then cut out 23 snowflakes using the FMM Cool Christmas Tappit. Roll a little red modelling paste and cut out 1 snowflake.

Using water or edible glue attach the white snowflakes around the snowman and penguins, then attach the red snowflake to the front of the birdhouse as shown in picture.

Final Steps

To assemble the bird house, follow the instructions on the pack.

With water or edible glue attach the 2 half circle to the front of the bird house to make a step. Place the smaller one on the top of the bigger one.

Attach the robin to the front of the bird house, standing on the step.

Decorate the eyes of the penguins, snowman and robin using either white edible paint or tiny balls of white fondant.
